09/19/2024: Pollinator Planting on the Swaner Preserve

Thursday, September 19th 9 am- noon Swaner has been selected as a recipient of UDAF's Utah Pollinator Habitat Program! We need a hand planting hundreds of seedlings on the Swaner Preserve. These plants will provide crucial habitat and food for pollinators, including monarch butterflies. Volunteers will will plant small container seedlings in staged areas on the Preserve. Seedlings will be flagged to make ongoing maintenance like watering and hand weeding possible. Project location is near the Highland Drive Kiosk here: hhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/gprZvbutXtUVxt488. Parking is available, but a restroom and water are not available onsite. Project may wrap up early in the event all plants are planted and watered early. If you'd like to arrive late or leave early outside of the 9-12 timeframe or have any questions about the project, contact Rhea. We would still love to have your help even for a shorter time!

This event will happen rain or shine, but will be postponed in the event of nearby lightning. Dress for the weather, and wear sturdy footwear, a hat, sunscreen, and bring water. Gloves will be provided, or bring your own if there is a pair you prefer. Volunteers should be able to bend over for extended periods, and walk over uneven ground. Unaccompanied volunteers must be 14 and older, younger volunteers capable of the project description may attend with parent or guardian supervision.
